Introduction:

Long ago, in the great kingdom of Bumbaran, there lived a prince of remarkable valor and beauty. His name was Prince Bantugan. Loved by all and admired for his prowess, the story of his epic journey became a legendary tale, passed down through the generations of the Maranao people in the Philippines. This tale is one of heroism, sacrifice, and the undying pursuit of honor and love.

The Kingdom of Bumbaran

In the Kingdom of Bumbaran, ruled by King Madali, there flourished a warrior who was not only skilled in battle but also gifted with unparalleled wisdom and beauty. This man was none other than Prince Bantugan, the brother of King Madali. Bantugan was admired throughout the land for his bravery, and his reputation extended far beyond the borders of Bumbaran.

The kingdom was prosperous, its people content, and all seemed well. But beneath this veneer of peace, there lurked jealousy and envy. King Madali himself, though he loved his brother dearly, could not suppress his envy for Bantugan’s fame. As Bantugan’s glory grew, Madali’s jealousy deepened. He felt that his own achievements were overshadowed by his younger brother’s.

One fateful day, King Madali declared an edict, forbidding anyone from speaking to Bantugan without the king's explicit permission. This cruel decree left the noble prince isolated and hurt. Confused by his brother’s sudden coldness, Bantugan left the kingdom of Bumbaran, seeking peace and solace in distant lands.

Bantugan’s Exile

Prince Bantugan wandered far from Bumbaran, traversing valleys and mountains, meeting new people and exploring foreign lands. Despite his exile, Bantugan's heroic deeds continued to spread, earning him admiration and respect wherever he went.

In his travels, Bantugan arrived at the Kingdom of the Land-Between-Two-Seas. This kingdom was ruled by a benevolent king and queen who, hearing of Bantugan's feats, welcomed him with open arms. He was treated like royalty, and for a while, Bantugan found peace in his exile. But even in this peaceful land, danger was never far away.

One day, a neighboring kingdom, jealous of the wealth and peace of the Land-Between-Two-Seas, declared war. Hearing this, Bantugan immediately volunteered to lead the defense. Armed with his magical Kampilan (sword) and his indomitable spirit, Bantugan led the charge, driving the enemies away and securing victory for the kingdom.

Though triumphant, Bantugan felt the emptiness of being away from his homeland. His heart ached for Bumbaran and his brother King Madali, despite the injustice done to him.

The Journey Home

After several months in the Land-Between-Two-Seas, Bantugan made the decision to return to Bumbaran. But the journey was long, and his heart was heavy with the weight of his exile. Unbeknownst to him, his physical health began to deteriorate as his soul battled with sorrow and longing.

While making his way home, Bantugan arrived at the gates of the Kingdom of the Land of the Setting Sun. Exhausted and ill, he collapsed at the gates, where the guards, unaware of his identity, rushed him inside. The people of this kingdom soon realized who he was and tended to him with great care, but alas, Bantugan’s condition worsened. He was stricken with a mysterious illness that no healer could cure.

As his strength waned, Bantugan’s spirit left his body and journeyed to the afterlife. The people of the Kingdom of the Land of the Setting Sun mourned the death of the great warrior, and they prepared a magnificent funeral to honor him. But there was more at stake than just Bantugan’s physical life. His soul had not yet crossed the threshold of the afterlife. His destiny still awaited him.

The Quest to Save Bantugan’s Soul

Meanwhile, in the kingdom of Bumbaran, King Madali had heard of Bantugan’s illness and regretted his earlier actions. His heart filled with guilt, and he resolved to save his brother. Upon hearing of Bantugan’s death in the Land of the Setting Sun, King Madali, along with their sister Princess Datimbang, embarked on a dangerous journey to recover Bantugan’s body and soul.

They traveled to the afterlife, where they encountered gods and mythical beings. Along the way, they faced tests of courage, wisdom, and love. In the realm of the gods, King Madali had to plead for Bantugan’s life. The gods, moved by Madali’s sincerity and remorse, agreed to return Bantugan’s soul to his body, but only if Madali could retrieve Bantugan’s body from the Land of the Setting Sun before it was buried.

The Return of Bantugan

With the blessing of the gods, King Madali and Princess Datimbang hurried back to the Land of the Setting Sun. There, they found Bantugan’s body lying in state, ready for burial. Using magical incantations bestowed upon them by the gods, they summoned Bantugan’s soul back into his body. Slowly, Bantugan opened his eyes, his spirit restored to the mortal world.

The people of the Land of the Setting Sun rejoiced, and King Madali embraced his brother with tears in his eyes. Bantugan, though weakened, understood the love behind his brother’s actions and forgave him. Together, they made the long journey back to Bumbaran.

The Final Battle

Though Bantugan was back in Bumbaran, peace was short-lived. A great army from the neighboring kingdom of Kalandugan threatened to invade. The Kalandugan king, having heard of Bantugan’s death, believed that Bumbaran was now vulnerable and ripe for conquest.

Bantugan, still recovering from his ordeal, refused to let his people fall into the hands of the enemy. Leading the army of Bumbaran, Bantugan rode into battle once more. His Kampilan gleamed in the sunlight as he charged forward, his strength and courage inspiring his soldiers.

The battle was fierce, with many lives lost on both sides. But Bantugan, despite his recent revival, fought with the ferocity of a lion. He engaged the enemy king in single combat, and after a long and grueling fight, Bantugan emerged victorious. The forces of Kalandugan retreated in defeat.

Prince Bantugan’s fame grew even more after his death and resurrection. His story spread far and wide, becoming a legend throughout the islands. His bravery and dedication to his people made him a symbol of strength and honor.
